Autumn has made some lovely styles to share with you on the occasion of hair Fair 2009. Let me present to you, from left to right: Gattina.. the inimitable can curler trailer trash chic which is secretly being admired for quirky cuteness even by Rodeo Drive shopaholics (shown in café au lait, my favourite Tiny Bird colour). Then we have Janie, which is more girl next door-sweet and cute-  and soccer mom, and if there were not a couple of strands being a little frivolous, I’d say even a wee bit Stepfordish (shown in Buttermilk). Third in the row is Hayden, which made me want to put on some elven ears and take off for Avillion. It’s a lovely, fairy tale like do, with the braid over the front and the cutest hairline on the fore head (shown in ginger, a red I really like) . And then there is Swirly… aaaah.. what can I say… Janie’s mundane sister, who will not hesitate to wreck your home if she fancies your man. Voluminous, sophisticated, Swirly is impeccable.. and lethal (shown in Dragees).

Hair Fair 2009 opens to the public tomorrow. Find Tiny Bird at: http://slurl.com/secondlife/HF%202009/214/97/22

Other NEED to knows: skin Forest from Dutch Touch, shirt also from Dutch Touch and the eyes are from Shine.

Odd…

Ever since, back in  October 2008, I decided to go back to blogging more regularly, I have updated it pretty much daily for months. Now I have signed up for the BBBC 2009, and all of a sudden, I really don’t know what to write about.  I can’t even bring myself to take some photos of the stuff I’ve been wearing, and RL obligations seem more time consuming this week than normally. O Hai…

But… a challenge wouldn’t be a challenge if  there would not be any bumps in the road, so for today I’m sticking to Alicia’s suggestion for a topic:  You’ve been given a sim of your very own to use for free for one year. However, there are 3 rules. It cannot be residential, it cannot be commercial, and it has to be open to the public. What do you do with it?

Now that’s an interesting idea. My first thought was… “I have no clue what I would do with it”  but after a bit of soul searching, I think I’d like to invite prim artists  to make some installations, to make it a place of wonder.  Plus… I’d love to have that sim and do a lot of landscaping… just because I can.

That’s all for today…  I hope to be able to dedicate some more time tomorrow. ❤

NO H8

NO H8, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

On day two of the BBBC 2009 i’d like to address the NO H8 campaign. I am Dutch and live near Amsterdam. To some of you that may seem like I live in the ultimate free state, citizen of the suburbs of Sodom & Gomorra. But it’s  not that bad, really… we’re more conservative than you might think.

Yes we have registered partnerships… open to both opposite and same sex couples (it’s a purely legal alternative to marriage, which is being considered having a religious component, and will give partners the same legal benefits as married couples) and I think it is a good thing. Why should same sex couples who want to commit to eachother and take care of eachother, just like hetero sexual couples, have less legal possibilities to do so? With mr. Horwitz, I can make him my heir and he’ll be elligible for a part of my pension plan should something happen to me and he has to go on alone.. but if mr Horwitz were a ms Horwitz… I should not be able to appoint her as my heir and partner on my pension plan? Would my love and my responsibility for my significant other be worth less?

And yet… even here in my liberal mini country there are narrow minded people who have a “not in my back yard” attitude towards same sex registered partners. Last year, in my town council, we had quite a fierce discussion between the confessionals and conservatives on one side and the liberals and social democrats to the other. NO… the confessionals were not against the same sex partnerships… everyone should have the right to form a formal bond… after all, that’s the law… but… the offical who would have to close such bond, who would conduct the ceremonial aspect of the registration .. he/she should have the liberty to refuse to do so if their personal beliefs were opposed to same sex couples.

It made me angry and sad. Should I want to be a teacher at elementary school… I can’t say I’ll teach Dutch and History, but I won’t teach children how to write…. That is an essential part of the job as a teacher. If you want to be a wedding official, you can’t choose that some couples you will “marry” and others you won’t. Aside fromt he fact that I think you shouldn’t even want to become a wedding official if you have issues with same sex couples, the whole discussion is ridiculous… and yet so very real.

So the NO H8 campaign, it may be an initiative to protest against proposition 8… but as far as I am concerned, it’s not limited to that. There are so many couples same sex and opposite sex who deeply love eachother, and care for eachoter. And if you truly believe that all men are created equal… then we all should have the same rights and access to social institutions.

Lazy SundayI heard about the BBBC 2009 on plurk…and decided to join. More info about it you’ll find here, on Alicia Chenaux’blog. I have decided to go with the suggested topic for the first post in this challenge: How long have you been a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

Well, it was late November 2006 that I read message from Celebrity Trollop on Second Style that she was looking for new writers for the blog. I was pretty new to SL then, but fascinated with the various aspects of fashion in this virtual environment. So I sent her a message, and on December 1, 2006 I shared my first post with the readers of Second Style Fashionista. Uncertain at first, not able to even create a simple t-shirt, why would I dare to write reviews on SL fashion? English is not my native language… would it be good enough to write in? But in RL I have worked with my father, who was in the fashion industry before retiring last year, and I’ve been visiting the major fashion fairs in Europe ever since I was 16 years old. I’ve never had the ambition to follow in his footsteps, but we share a fashion for design and quality clothing. I decided that was justification enough to take my first steps in SL fashion blogging. And as far as my English is concerned… well… I think I’m doing fine.. and nowadays there are so many non native speaker bloggers anyway.

I was an avid reader of the few blogs that the fashion scene had back then. PXP, Linden Lifestyles and Second Style being the big ones, and at first it felt just plain good to be a part of the community of witty, quirky people who back then put a pretty heavy stamp on what was hot and not in SL. But what blogging has really brought me (aside from a huge inventory) are some pretty awesome and genuine friends. People like Roslin Petion, Sachi Vixen and Shai Delacroix I’ve come to care for as if they were my friends living across the street. Catero and Ryan, my former “colleagues” from Second Man, they are dear to me beyond SL. And then there are people who I got to know when they just started out designing in SL, like Lucas Lameth, my style guru and perfect companion on many a shopping spree, Dakota Buck, that wonderful, sweet, opinionated kick ass textures girl who just started a whole new designing chapter with her best friend Twiggy Whippet and Truth… eternal and extremely talented badass stinker.. one of my dearest buddies, who has never let me down. I love them all. And of course Samara Barzane….. one of the sweetest and most genuine people around… my SL sister, even if I don’t believe in SL family ties. She’s the exeption to the rule.
You know… one of the things I hate about the Academy Awards are the eternal speeches full of credits… but really.. in this case I don’t know where to stop. Blogging has been a way for me to make new friends, something which in RL, due to my extreme shyness isn’t always easy for me, and even if I haven’t mentioned you by name here… you know who you are ❤

Cana, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

When a couple of weeks ago I was talking to Lion Jonesford from Lionskins about her Dollhouse skins, she mentioned she would send me a sample of her newest project, Cana when the body was finished. Yesterday she dropped the 5 skintones on me with the message that she was about to start making make ups. And would love my opinion on the skin so far. Well… what can I say… this is just a hell of a gorgeous skin, with the lips a bit on the plump side (I’ve tweaked my mouth for this photo… reduced the lower lip and made it generally a bit less full), but other than that, it fits like a glove.

Hope you like the photo, Lion… because I sure like your skins! Thank you for sharing it.

Other need to knows: hair Linda from Truth, Lingerie Caroline from Insolence, Rose from Ephemera Baroque on Xstreet, Furniture by Miabella Foxely @ The Loft.

So I started out with this beautiful Carmen  fedora from Illusions and a sneak preview from Lionskins upcoming release Cana and wanted to do something white and pink and ultra feminine combining it with Lelutka’s white Olimpia pants… and instead I end up tinting the fedora in a color that is not available in the texture schanger, wearing it with Lelutka‘s Champagne Satin pants and Shai‘s khaki safari suit jacket. Uhm, yeah… so far for planning…Oh, the sunglasses from Skinflicks were a part from the original idea, but instead of going for subtle jewelry, I opted for this chunkier double gold/wood necklace from Icon. With the hat, I’m wearing Lelutka’s Grace hair in natural blonde (modded to fit with the hat).

A couple of weeks ago Samara sent me these hilarious octopussies from E! (Eclectic Apparel & Accesoires) and today I’m showing another bit of the inventory from this quirky, fun shop. The Lumberjack open shirt, worn with Coco‘s knee high denim and white v-neck t-shirt. The Kboots are from Ju Weissnicht. I’m wearing the blue leather cap from Maitreya over a modded Zach hair from Truth and also the pendant is from Maitreya. The skinned knees are from Cheeky girl and the band aid on my lovely Curio skin ( June 2 dark Racoon 2 in in the new skintone Bean) is from an old Atomic skin. The beautiful henna arm tattoo is from HUZ

Ever since this group gift from Coco came in earlier today, Come on Eileen, from Dexy’s Midnight Runners has been on my mind. So this look is inspired after that, Wearing the Coco salopettes with the Maitreya RB Tank in Magnolia and their Mauve scarf. I’m wearing the brown Freedom Flops form Surf Couture and Exile‘s Jane hair, in ash (with hat). The lovely skin is Dutch Touch‘s latest addition to the collection, Forest with a lovely smokey eye and the pale, soft gloss lips.

Notte d’Estate

Notte d’estate, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

I used to love the summer nights in Rome. Standing in the dark at the Piazza di Spagna, or the Piazza Navona, watching the world’s top models strutting their stuff on the open air catwalks. The Spanish Stairs in Rome are an amazing decor for a fashion show… I think I liked those better than the ones at Piazza Navona. When I say top models, I mean top models. I’ve seen them all there… Claudia, Linda, Naomi, Christy, Helena, Tatjana, Cindy, Eva… and the beautiful designs of Armani, Gianfranco Ferrè, Valentino (i’m going to make that pose… I swear I will) and good old Gianni Versace (when the maestro was still around, not what it has become under the hands of the über tanned Donatella). Aaah.. oh well.. those were the days. I haven’t been in Rome for years now, and since we don’t have the Italian television station on our network anymore, I don’t even know whether these summer night fashion shows still take place. But when I was at Baiastice earlier, and saw this pretty Notti d’estate gown… I simply could not resist. The name alone triggered too many dear memories. And the design of the dress for me reflects the timeless elegance that above mentioned designers stood for. I usually am not a fan of satin, but this one looks pretty good I think. The set also includes a cocktail dress and the jewelry is from Baiastice too.

Hair is Tia, from Exile, and I’m wearing Kim theupcoming release from PXL Creations.

LOTD090610, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

This “Look of the Day” is actually pretty how my SL days are filled… The skin is unreleased… Last night Hart sent me the finished Kim skin (and all the make ups and brow options) in tan for a last check and when I came home from work earlier, I found a new beta, with the message.. “I felt I had to fiddle with the highlights on the legs some more… what do you think?” So apparently Kim has been demoted again to beta… and we’re still working on her. Then just now Roslin IMs me, asking my opinion on this new nautical set she’s been working on for Fleur ( so also unreleased for now) …. “what about the buttons… what do you think of the legs, colour options?”

In case you hadn’t noticed yet, I like working with my friends like this. A lot! and I have learned so much of it, with regard to looking at content in a technical way. Hopefully, both skin and outfit will be available soon.

What is available right now is the hair I’m wearing (Uncleweb: Lucio b in coffee) and Decoy’s Sunburst Mraz scarf.

Coming soon @ Blowpop

Blowpop Maya, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

This is a preview of Maya, a new skin which will be the next release at Blowpop, after Annyka ends the current 50%-60% off clearance sale on June 21! so this is a great occasion to stack up on your Blowpop collection.

Look of Ivalde

I honestly think I have been the first to blog about Nef and Ivalde, Embla and Ask, her three initial brands which later were all integrated under the Ivalde label. I don’t even remember how we met, I think it must have been while I was exploring the grid. I was a rookie blogger, and Nef a rookie designer. It was the beginning of  a nice friendship. Even though lately, we haven’t been in touch much. I hope she’ll be back soon, but I know she’s been suffering pains while designing, and I have suggested she’d take a break a long time ago, so I’m actually glad to see that the move is pretty much making her take the break she really needed. So I figured, in this post to take you through my blogging history with Neferia… don’t be shocked… some of the photo’s are pretty bad… I had a good laugh myself.

Embla_amy_red

Yes, that was back in December 2006, wearing Amy, from the Embla brand. I started blogging at Second Style just a few days before meeting Neferia.

neferia1_002

A few months later… more Ivalde. Logically so, because Neferia turned out to be one of the most diligent and dedicated designers on the grid, and her skills were improving fast, so blogging her again was really a pleasure.

Ivalde

After that, RL took over and there was so much to write about, people knew how to find me and I got a lot of blog requests and so little time. I did a few quick posts about Ivalde, and I also remember Celeb doing a couple. And then, almost a year after my first blog, I remember Nef IM-ing me, asking if I had forgotten about her, or that something was wrong. Nooooooo! not at all.. everything was really very right… but I had been so swamped that I just didn’t manage to be in touch. So I made time to visit my old friend, and got surprised all over at the quality and the improvements in the designs that had been made once again. Result… another Ivalde post *smiles*

And then I went on hiatus from Second Style, was busy with a few other projects and eventually started up my own blog. I’ve been using Ivalde clothes on several looks but early March of this year, my eyes caught the beautiful Odile gown in Ivalde which I wanted to make pretty photos with.

And so today, it’s time for a Look of Ivalde day. I’ve picked the stunningly beautiful blue Halldora gown and wear it with the Birla belt in violetred. The Ivory Spring flower Bun is from JE Republic (retextured and recoloured the flowers) and I’m wearing Tuli’s Hope fair/Tequila. My Veronique jewelry is from Shiny Things.

Nef… enjoy your hiatus… get well, and come back when you’re ready ❤

Gogo’s blog post today totally made me want to check out Couverture, but instead of the new release Gogo wrote about, I came home with this co cream dress… It’s so elegant… It comes with a matching turtle neck, but I have chosen to wear it with the collar of Coco‘s white broadcloth blouse. The dress is ankle long, and it has a lovely flexi. The Aems earrings in indigo from Whippet & Buck are a pretty match. I love the new hair at Exile, I’m wearing Ciara, in sand and since I again could not resist the new release at Curio, I figured I might as well put on the cute June swan 2.

Lazy casual day today… my basic New School jeans from Kari/Torridwear (/me makes mental note to finally start to stalk Torrid for more colours) and a lovely tank top that Hart Larsson made and which for now is not available, but will be soon…. I’m wearing them with my brown Freedom flops from Surf Couture, and Coco’s brown V-shaped belt. My Autumn necklace is from Exodi. I’m wearing Kim, the soon to be released new skin at PXL again, which by now really has become my default skin and Truth’s Aradia hair.

[update  July 2] As of today, the June shape is gone from my inventory. Thank you everyone who requested it. It’s nice to know so many people are following my blog! xoxo

[update] Thank you everyone who has asked a copy of my reader appreciation gift. If you haven’t yet, June is not over… you still have a couple of days

June gift, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

Hey people… It’s been a while since I made you a shape for free, actually, it’s been a while since I made any shapes at all. No, I’m not planning to re-open my business again, but I just wanted to show you a little appreciation for keeping up with my scribblings, and all your encouraging messages. Thank you for that!

So, I present to you June and some examples of what she looks like on different skins. June is not tall, not skinny, she has small boobs, a little junk in the trunk, and even a wee bit of a belly… oh and she detests bling. But if you want this cutie (no mod, because some people have been copying my previous gift… not nice) just send me a notecard in world with in the subject rule your full avatar name and June shape (and any feed back that you wish to share with me). If your name is not complete I won’t be able to send you the shape.

Please allow me some time to reply, and June will only be available throughout June.
