Angel

Funk Schnook @FNKY! has released a new skin. A Female one… Angel, and I love it. It’s a very pretty face, with a more than decent range of 12 make ups and she’s available in 2 skintones, Medium and Sunkissed. I’ve picked the lighter medium skintone. Each angel skin (L$ 1499) comes in version A and B and body 1 and 2. A&B are about the make ups… B being more intense than A, which is more of a day version of the make up. Body 1 and 2 are referring to the shading being softer on one and more defined on the other skin, giving her a slightly more toned look.

It’s been a while since Ivy Graves started the work on her sim and her new skins, and the result of both is lovely. These skins have a fragile facial beauty and come in 4 skintones, and a plethora of make ups, from very natural to ultra dramatic. I picked up 3 of the 4 skintones and to the upper left you can see a skin with different eyebrows, Ivy sent that one to her group 2 weeks ago, and obviously there have been some change between than moment and the day of final release. Whereas I like the subtle look of the (non mod) eyebrows, I am a huge fan of adjustability, or, if one chooses to make a skin non mod, the availability of more hair colour options to chose from. The mouth of this skin won me over, it’s so pretty.

Synergy by Opium

A couple of months ago, Alaska Metropolitan asked a few people if we’d like to beta test her new skins. Being the total skin whore that I am, I didn’t know how fast to say “I Do!”. Now the invitation came with a warning, this was not the average SL skin like you buy it everywhere… this involved downloading and fiddling with the SL folders on your computer and, oh Lordy, I’m such a coward when it comes to that. On top of everything I was having some serious hardware issues at that time, and using a computer that was not mine, so downloading and replacing wasn’t even an option.

But… hardware issues are there to be resolved, and I’m back on my own computer.. and I honestly pretty much forgot about Synergy, until I started to clean up the mess that my inventory usually is, and retrieved Alaska’s folder from the clutter.

Following the instructions on the notecard, the download, renaming and replacing of the skin files in the SL program folder was actually less complicated than I feared it to be. After I did that, I went back into SL, and chose create>new skin from my inventory, and there she was… Synergy, by Opium… I had replaced the LL default skin with Alaska’s textures and had the best system skin ever (on the photo to the lower right corner).

Now having the default skin, adding make ups is what makes this interesting, because Alaska’s make ups are on the head template So, when you would normally wear a skin , you’d wear an assembled head/upperbody/lowerbody skin, but in Synergy’s case, you’re wearing a head “tatoo”and for the rest you still see the “default” synergy skin that you have on your harddisk. Are you still with me? I hope Alaska will release these skins soon, because you’ll really want to try this out. And ofcourse there will be more skintones available then, and the make ups you’ll buy will be coming in light skin and dark skin versions, the hue and saturation adjusted to the skintone of your choice. All in all there will be a whopping 1728 options to customise your skin from for the basic skins alone, chosing hair colour, freckles, eyebrow shape, skintones, pubes, tanlines etc etc (24 head options X 4 upper body options X 18 lower body options) and about 50 make ups on top of that!

Surf & Co. skins

Baby Oil, SPF 4, SPF 15, Zinc Oxide… these are the names of the tones of the new skins that Emma Gilmour released over at Surf & Co. In her lovely mainstore on the Artilleri sim, she has these on display. They come in 8 make ups each, with fun names like Gone Surfin’ , Italian Ice and Flipflops. This is a skin with an ultra drawn, cartoonish look, it’s fun and it’s lovely.

You don’t want this skin for the body, not because it’s done badly, but because there simply isn’t much detailing. There are hints of shading, the belly and breasts actually done nicely, but without much detailing, and the same goes for the back. What is there in shading is done well, but it’s all vague. The lower body has even lesser detailing and shading than the upper body part, which is quite visible under the bellybutton. Not as a seam, but the skin texture just gradually fades out.

Do I mind? Uhm.. well, yes… I’d love to see a next version of these skins with a little more body definition. Do I regret spending 750 L$ per skin? Not at all! I like the faces, and they’ll be fun to wear!

Dutch Touch skin: Onyx

Not new, Onyx was released in February, but I only got to revisit Dutch Touch last week after a lot of time, and I got a bit infatuated with this pretty face and beautiful skin. Onyx comes in 5 skintones, and 10 make ups. Most of them pretty classical, with soft lip and eye make up and 2 rather funky faces, equally gorgeous,but for more specific looks. There are no tintable eye brows for this skin, which may make it a little less popular with the true blondes of sl, but the brown is quite good with a wide range of browns and reds and darker hair colours in general.

The body is lovely. The smoothness of a hand painted skin, flawless except for one or two minor seams, with attention for details. Every pack of Onyx contains 3 skins, the make up you bought, that same make up with a push up cleavage (shown in the large image) and the natural version of Onyx. The front of Onyx is soft, but not overly detailed, although I found the slightest tan lines on the hips really cute. The back, on the contrary, is really well done, with beautifully shaded spine and shoulderblades and a pretty, round bum.

Iki has had a pretty steady flow of releases, ever since she started creating about 2 years ago, but you may have noticed that it has gone a bit quiet at Dutch Touch. Iki is not much in world anymore, She told me that she’s tired and also frustrated with finding her designs, which she spends a lot of time and effort at drawing everything from scratch, in BIABs, mega malls and Xstreet within days after releasing it. As long as the sales pay for the land, Dutch Touch will be around, but at this point, Iki is not making new things, and will eventually disappear from SL. Sad to see a talented creator loose faith and withdraw….

Mia @ Mai Bodyshop

OK, so I felt like writing about skins again, and I have seen Mia, from Mai Bodyshop a couple of times on Thalia, and I have used them a few times myself, and the face really struck me. It’s not the average pretty girl face, this skin appears to be a bit more mature, it has character. Much to my surprise,when I googled the skin and its creator it has not been blogged much. There is a lovely set of photo’s from Gogo on her blog, but that is about it. Mia comes in 4 skintones, sunrise, midday, sunset and midnight and has some pretty strong make ups. I think the mouth is quite spectacular. Mia comes a bald and a hair base version, with 2 sets of lashes, and a face lamp, which I think is nice, but not really necessary if you use good windlight settings like Caliah’s. Wearing a face lamp, you’ll all to easy blind other people’s SL.

You may have seen this skin on me in the last couple of blogposts already, but I’m seriously infatuated with the pretty face of Mimi and Rosemary’s latest addiditon to their skin range. Seduction came, saw and conquered me right on the spot when I first put the wheat skin tone of the generous group gift on. Right now there are 10 make ups available for each of the 8 skintone, most of them are pretty soft and girly. Mimi and Rose have promised more make-ups though, and I am curious to see them.

I’m showing you the gift skin here, as I only managed just now to go to Le Zoo and pick up 2 more skins, the Natural and the Retro, which are yummy as well.

Upcoming releases @ Popfuzz

When I first heard of Popfuzz “Poppy” Bamboo she was the Queen of Colours for me. Everything she made, no matter how wild the outfit, came in at least 10 vibrant colours from shocking pink and royal blue through warning sign yellow and apple green. And not only that, Poppy is one of those creators that puts every possible (useful) layer in the pack for massive combining her things with other designs. The other week I saw on her blog that she made this cute naughty nurse outfit, wearing a really cute skin tight dress, and guess what…. Poppy has been making more colours again! She’s been dimming the colours of this dress -Nadia- a little though, making them deeper and richer in my opinion. I’m showing you only a couple of the colours in which it’s available, becaues as usual, it’s a colour fest!

I think you will see me in this dress more often, or wearing parts of it, because like I said, it is perfect for layering with other stuff for outfits. The release of Nadia is expected one of these days.

No date set yet for Popfuzz‘ new skin Indulgence, which, like the clothes at Popfuzz comes in a plethora of skintones and make ups. Indulgence has a lovely face, with tons of eye make ups and a luscious cherry mouth. There are 2 eyebrow options, light and dark which for me are both on the reddish side, that might be something to work on. Thebody come’s with a normal boob shading, and a cleavage shading, for that Eva Herzigova “Hello Boys” effect. Like I said, Poppy has no date yet for the release of Indulgence.. but if you subscribe to her mailing list in her shop, you’ll receive a nice Indulge skin gift in al 9 skintones!

Upcoming is also a really nice male/unisex release and I just might show that later this week, If SL will stop make me crash every time I try to make a pic!!! *shakes fist *

Shoujo Spring

Mmmm… newness at Fleur makes me happy… especially when it’s newness in the Shoujo line, which currently is my favourite at Fleur. I just love the smooth and soft features of these skins. Roslin and CJ have created 6 new lovely make ups for this season, with soft pinks, sheer blues and powdery peach colours.

The body on this skin is the new Shoujo body, as it was introduced late last year. The soft glow, the handpainted look and the level of detail on this body makes Shoujo a worthy alternative for those of you who do not pursue the current trend for hyper realism and shine. And on another level, I hear many people complaining these days that everyone seem to use the same references, whether they were legally acquired or not, well… The creators of Fleur have been on a quest for references NOT used by everyone and their mom, making Fleur skins some of the most authentic and original skins available.

Preview PXL Creations:Jude

This is the first time I practically begged Hart to send me samples of a skin. And a male skin too…. Ok, I admit, usually I don’t beg at all, because we have this understanding that works out just fine: he sends me samples for my opinion and I drive him crazy with my feed back. But I don’t know anything about male skins, so this has really been his private project. I even only saw it for the very first time when it was well on it’s way already. First time I saw Hart in this skin, I was like… “wtf are you wearing…? That’s gorgeous…” And then I drooled some, I swear. By now the skintones are final (summer, autumn, winter and spring), and Hart will be working on the hair options. For sure this skin will come with a hairbase, for the other options, I’m still clueless, but I will keep you guys posted.

Genesis – Eden skins

Warning: opinion ahead!

The latest project of the multi talented Ms Ryker Beck is skins. Those who follow her on Plurk have been taken on a weeks long journey of development and teasing and finally, the end result is here, and it’s very pleasurable.

Eden has a face that remotely reminds me of some of the skins that I used to wear a lot, it has a full, luscious mouth like Evermore’s Hybrid and the carefully plucked and styled eyebrows like Pixeldeep skins. Said eyebrows are non mod though, and while they are subtle enough to not be “in your face” for the more fair haired, it would be nice to have options, especially since Ryker has made a tintable landing strip on clothing layers. To tackle the alpha bit in a skin is not the easiest thing to do though, so it might be something for the future to work on. As are the freckles, I really like a freckle face, I even like a freckled skin better, but for Eden I’ll go with the non freckled version, because honestly, these freckles look more like a adolescent skin problem to me. Eden comes in 8 skintones, ranging from a very pale, desturated skintone to a really dark one. Some of them more saturated than others, some of them quite orange even. I’m sharing the fairly neutral Nutgmeg with you which I totally like. Eden will be available in 20 make ups.

On to the body… Ryker is known for some fairly explicit skin reviews in the past, and while you won’t get any spread eagled shots on this blog, I’ll try to be as explicit in words as I possibly can. (more…)

Tuli’s Natalie

I think I’m getting old or something. Last week I made photos of Tuli’s Natalie for a review… and then forgot about them, or the review in the chaos of my RL week. So, with some delay (and the face shots done over because I liked the format that I used yesterday for Annyka’s) I’s like to state that I’m glad that Tuli’s latest has again the softness that I appreciate so much in her skins.

Kallista, her previous release, whilst being a beautiful skin with a lot of dramatic make ups was too hard for me, too lean, with very pronounced ribs and over all bone structure. Natalie on the other hand, is soft, and feminine and err… yeah, she’s lickable. Natalie is available in 7 skintones and comes with a plethora of make ups. The faces have faint freckles and every skin pack contains 2 skins, full make up and natural lips as well as optional pubes on clothes layers and pre-tinted brows.

I obviously am not a natural Tuli shape girl, because I had to tweak my shape a little. My own mouth would be a wee bit too small to be beautiful with these skins. But I’m used to minor shape tweaking, so I just save a new copy with the name of the skin and store it in its folder.

Back to the body. Natalie has an over all lovely shading, with a stomach that I really like, and I always love the way Tuli shades her boobs. They just look pretty. These skins are pretty flawless. So that is no topic for discussion. You either like it or you don’t, because it’s good for your avie, or not. And I think that is the strongest thing about Tuli as a skinner she just makes quality skins that make a lot of avatars look beautiful. For me, Natalie is a more than welcome addition to my skin collection. I especially like the way the darker skintones look on me.

Other need to knows: I’m wearing Zero Style’s Dana, Skin Flick’s Marsha undies and Insolence’s Marie Jeanne heels… Oh and did I mention Tuli’s Natalie? 😛

Coming Soon: Infinity Skins

A couple of months ago Anyka Bekkers of Blowpop called out for beta testers for her new skins. I’ve always liked Annyka’s approach to skins, but unfortunately, her skins never fitted me well, so the times I have been seen in public wearing hers, add up maybe to 4… 5 times? With the betas I already noticed a difference in the way the skins looked on me. More friendly, less spoiled… I gave her a ton of feed back and then… nothing. Every now and then on Plurk I read how Anyka decided to rebrand and was looking for a new name, and a new style for her vendors and shop… but no release in sight. Until last night, when she dropped a preview pack on her beta testers with not one, not two, but three new skinlines! And they look good on me!!!!

So far every skin comes in 3 skintones, with 6 make ups and hair base/ho hair options. Meet Ava, Carmen and freckleface Elizabeth:

Luc is Back in Town

….and with two stunning releases, if I may say so. Maya was Lucas Lameth’s first sculptie piece, back in June 2007. Now he has made Maya II (worn in the left photo), with better stone textures and way more sophisticated sculpties, but with the same organic, stylish ” feel” that much of Luc’s jewelry has for me. Undine (to the right) is a cascade of gems, and the piece is so very adequately named Undine, since she’s one of the 8 elemental spirits, representing water. I’m wearing the Dawn Prism version, which has an opaline iridiscence to it.

Further I’m wearing Lionskins fair 30, Artilleri’s new hair Rina in Toffee… kudos for Antie for the new textures, you rock! And my bikini.. my lovely pink, sheer bikini.. It’s an oldie in my inventory by Simone, and must have been one of the first items I ever bought.
