fri.day soon, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

Oooooh… such speculations… I’ve heard many… who are the people behind Fri.day??? It is the question of the week and of course I do have my own idea about the creative forces behind this brand, but, does it really matter? If a content creator, or a group of creators, decide(s) to startup a new brand, under an alt, breaking free from their previous image and conventions, or not, whatever pleases them… should it all keep us captive for days? I don’t think so, people. I’ve heard the wildest assumptions, culminating in the inevitable “it’s Ginny, I know for sure” . For me counts what I see though, and what I see is original and well made content. Basics for now, but with obvious feeling for style and a knack for crisp textures.

I’d like to congratulate the fri.day crew with what is already looking like going to be a very succesful launch of their brand, and can only express my hope that they will not neglect their original SL projects.

This vest caught my eye in a small shop, Rhapsodie, at Koenji ( I never exactly know where I am in that sim, I wander and discover new shops there all the time, or so it seems) and I knew it would be a cute match with some of the guy’s stuff that Popfuzz has out now. I’m wearing the vest with Popfuzz’ low rise, belted, brown jeans and the chestnut men’s tank top. The short stacks from Pretties by JB are a good match for this boho outfit. I have accessorised with the hues of rose Moxie bangles and Lucas Lameth’s Tropical necklace #1.

I’m, wearing Polly, by Truth, in mahogany, and PXL Creation’s Grace Fair which, by popular demand, will be in the shop later this week and the henna tattoo is from Zaara’s Indian bride outfit.

A couple of days ago I received this kind postcard from the Pearl sisters Adelaide, Cecily and Vivian telling that they just completed finishing school and that they are now residing with their guardian Mr. Byron Westminster in his beautiful home. I’m pretty sure mr. Westminster has his hands full to protect these 3 playful young ladies from the perils that these vulnerable creatures are exposed to once they will make their debut, butfor the time being, the household seem to be pleasantly disciplined.

Under the protective yet firm hand of their guardian, the Pearl sisters have been diligently working on a few projects for their Cheeky Girls brand which now are ready to share with the world. The visitor to their home may expect some lovely lingerie sets, made out of soft silk and antique lace, with knickers and brassières the leave some to be discovred yet and which are perfect to surprise your Valentine with. There are a couple of hairdo’ s, wickedly innocent, some with colour change accessoires and with lovely soft textures in girly colours. Demure yet alluring. There is a modest collection of  beautiful shiny eyes that will make him melt when you look up at him… either in utter adoration, or while teasing and feeling frisky. And then there is a pretty skin collection which has some innovative and slightly naughty features….

One can purchase extra textures to these skins with a freckled cleavage, or if you indulge being more of a tomboy-ish girl, skinned knees. However, for the naughty among us, there are some adorable spank marks on the cute bottoms which makes you wonder how much fun Mr. Westminster really has with his cheeky protègées. A brief, but very pleasant with the lovely Ms. Vivian taught me that more work  is to be expected, and that they are having some other naughty ideas to share with us as time will pass.

The build itself deserves some attention as well. Mr. Westminster has made himself a lovely secluded home, with a very imaginative entrance. Aside from the first floor, which has been opened to the public  and where the collection for now is on display, the doors are  shut… but who knows what’s going on behind them…

W&B, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

Finally I got a go from Twiggy Whippet to use these dresses in a blogpost. She sent me these some time ago as a gift, but since she was no where near to opening her shop, it didn’t feel right to put pressure on her by blogging them back then.
Twiggy is the primary designer of Whippet&Buck and she’s currently building her shop and inventory and when I asked her about the status of things, she gave me a go, and she told me she’s planning to open in about 2 weeks. So keep an eye open for more information and SLurls and such.

So from left to right, I have styled the Bardot Tartan Tube dress in a few different ways:
The Olive drab dress I’m wearing with LeLutka’s black Dietrich blouse, Kyoot Army’s brown/black Electro belt, and Maitreya’s lime patent pumps. The purple Valentino I’ve teamed up with the scarlet medium length gloves from Fleur and the Feur scarlet Leather Sash Belt. The necklace is Aemilia, from W&B and the shoes are Belle, from Shiny Things. Then there is the Indigo, which I’m wearing with the Cole boat neck top from W&B in Electric, and the Turquoise patent belt from Fleur, and the classic blue stacks from Shiny Things. To the far right I’m wearing the Bardot Tartan Tube dress in gold, as is, with only the Calla necklace from Dela and the yellow Dahlia pumps from Armidi.

Further, in all 4 cases, I’m wearing Efe,fromPXLCreations, which I’ve been told is about to be released later this week and Damselfly’s Valerija hair.

I enjoy reading blogs, and I enjoy getting to know new designers through the blogs of fellow fashionistas. Like Elemiah Choche, covered a few weeks ago. The post made me put her shop on my to-do list and I bought some of her designs. I think we have a talented new designer here. She really makes cute things. Talented.. and also a tad arrogant… not open to feed back.. and not living up to promises…..

O.o… Grazia is starting a rant? Uhm.. yes.. I suppose you could say that. What happened… I saw this really pretty lace dress… called accurately Pretty. Look.. this is a shot of the vendor in Elemiah’s shop. Cuteness….

But this is what I saw once I put it on… oh rage… o désespoir…. such ugly seams on such a pretty dress. In shock I IMmed the creator, as well as the blogger. Blogger in shock too.. she in fact had not noticed it because she had been covering another outfit, lacy as well… but in a grey colour and thus less visible. And then the creator came back to me…. No no.. it was not a flaw.. it is intentionally with the holes under the arm… and she had not had any complaints of many other customers. I told her I could have understood that if the front of the seam was sculpted like the back of the seam, but that this looks to me like a ready made texture fit on the template. So she said she’d add a photo to the vendor of the under arm so that people could at least see what they were buying, she sent me an “I’m sorry you are disappointed” gift and that was it.

Ok.. really… what you do with the feedback that I offer you, is up to you ofcourse, especially if unsollicited… and maybe reviewing fashion and skins for as long as I have been doing makes me über anal on seams issues and such… but, I just cannot believe that people are so blind that they don’t see this…. or that they like it when they see it… so getting no complaints… that doesn’t automatically mean that people are satisfied. More likely they just delete the outfit and don’t even bother to contact the creator… but most likely… they will not shop there again too… and I wonder… Is that the kind of clientbase you want to establish as a creator?

For a time I just let it go… until today I decided to go check up on the shop and see what was new (because really… she does make nice things too… I picked up the sassiest charleston dress there) and in the meantime decided to look at the altered vendor… including the photo she said she would add. And which she didn’t, as you can see above… I shot this photo just 30 minutes ago. I just don’t think it is fair to sell a dress with an obvious issue like this, and not show it to your clients… it may be only L$ 250… but according to me… it’s L$ 250 too much.

Please Be Seated

Yours truly has been one lazy blogger lately, but that is because I have been spending quite some time making poses. Yeah that’s right… poses. I wanted to have some special ones for special outfits and I could not find them, so I finally decided to make them myself and it is totally taking me. It is so much fun. I have promised myself to do some reading to find out how animations work so that I can make a start with those too. And I do need to read things about it.. the few attempts I did without any back ground info really suck. Anyway, this pose I made earlier today and I really like how it has turned out.

Pricing

Blogging for one of SL’s major fashion blogs, I do see a lot of shops. I do check out a lot of new shops too, always looking for that one new designer that stands out in the crowd of wannabe SL fashion designers.

Yes, on my hunts I see quite some new designs, brands and concepts, although these days it seems hard to be truly original. Recently I befriended one of those new designers, Melodee McMillan, who has come up with an original new idea. She sells t-shirts, and there are a lot of people who start their content creating activities with that. But Melodee stands out with her concept. For a review on Melodee’s tees, check the Second Style Blog. The cool concept is the custom colour kit that Melodee offers. She made some of her shirts on 2 layers which you’ll wear together. the actual t-shirt on the shirt layer, and the slogan on the jacket layer. The shirt layer is modable so you can give it any colour you’d like. Now that is creativity in my opinion.

But I was not going to write about Mel’s tees. She has her shop in a new mall, and new malls usually attract new content creators, so while there to check out Melodee’s shop Bratney!, I also looked a little bit further to see if I could spot anything blog worthy, which, on this round I did not.

What I did notice though is the guts that some of the new content creators have in pricing their products. You’ll see poorly styled outfits that are priced at a stunning 300-450 L$! Now I tend to keep the established designers as a pricing reference, and when Ginny Talamasca at Last Call prices a gown at 275 L$, I really wonder how these new folks are going to establish long term relationships with their customers, charging the prices that they do. When you are new to SL and go on your first shopping spree, I can imagine you’ll fall for it, after all, you don’t have a clue about quality and price level in SL. But as soon as you discover the more skilled work of other designers that are priced lower… dunno but I’d feel cheated.

I found this great article by Myst Panther about pricing in SL which I think makes a lot of sense. Myst’s blog Caveat Emptor has a lot of very useful articles for people who are considering opening up a business in SL or have recently done so.
