I wonder…..

Yesterday, while shopping at The Abyss, my HUD sent me a disturbing message: [22:30] [ HUD ] XXXX (wear Me): Name of Bot: Irascible Monitor – Victim: Grazia Horwitz. Yes, apparently a cryolife user targetted my pixels to be copied. Flattering?  Hmm.. not really. In the meantime this account apparently got deleted already but when I checked the profile of this creature, while I AR’d it made me wonder about a thing or two…

Obviously this was a noob account, created in August 2009, with no payment on file. It was however in the GOL VIP something group, which is not open to the public. So someone with rights in the GOL project groups had to have this avatar admitted to their VIP group. Ignorance or alt?  I’ve left GOL owner Dakota Neumann a message about the copy attack and the AR, because I figure that in a prestigeous project like GOL, with many well known (and often already frustrated with copybot attacks) content creators on their GOL shopping sim,  this would be quite an issue for him. So far I have not heard anything back. Not that I necessarily need to, but it just left me a bit meh to see an avatar like that in such a group and I wonder how Mr Neumann follows up on things, just like I would like to hear opinions of mall and estate owners on how they try to protect content creators who rent on their property.

Kiss My Feet…

IXkin

OMG, Beau and Onyx are doing it again…. after a couple of days of teasers on her flickr stream, it’s almost time for the release of their new range of shoes, Maitreya Gold, and since I’m preparing this post before I go to bed, and Onyx & Beau are still working like crazy to get the sim ready for the release, they might be ready by the time this post appears on my blog… or not… but if not, then they’ll be close to finishing and to releasing their new pretties.

I had the pleasure of being able to pre- and review IXkin, which looks quite basic, at first glance, but is a stylish strappy sandal with an impossible high heel. Every detail has been taken care of, the buckles on the ankle, the baked shadows where the straps cross eachother, the stitches on the leather, and even the soles have gotten plenty of attention.

IXkin2

The Maitreya team has created a special foot texture, for more realism, and you can adjust the skintone of the foot with a HUD. Now that is nothing new, but what is, is that they have made a series of  9 skin presets which you can adjust with H/S & L (hue, saturation and lightness) instead of the more traditional RGB colours. Now every preset is default lightness 100, so you can only make them darker, not lighter than the preset.  Other than that it works just like with most prim feet, except that Onyx and Beau made a notecard with a lot of specifications of some major skin brands so that you don’t have to re-invent the wheel so to speak, but you can just pick your skin from the list and adjust accordingly. Handy, right? Furthermore there are 19 natural nail options and 14 nailpolishes to pick from.

IXkin comes in 2 versions… the single tones and the duo tones, and they each have 9 different colours. On the large pic I’m wearing the single tone Sienna, and on the close up I’ve picked the duo tone Pearl.  IXkin will retail for 1000 L$ per pair. Now I know, that is not cheap, but then again, quality is never cheap, it’s affordable at best, and personally I think that with this, they have a fair price. Maitreya provides demos, so be sure you try before you buy!!!

Other need to knows: Skin Chai Nova (unreleased), Hair & jacket by Truth and pants from Maitreya!

I love Mimikri’s latest release On Stage, but the combination of the jacket and the hotpants alone is a bit over the top for me…. So I’ve been looking to err, dress it down, while glamming it up… something like that. Make it more wearable instead of just being so hot that there is serious risk of spontaneous combustion.

I’m wearing the jacket with the v-neck white t-shirt from Coco and the white Brindisi slacks from Armidi. The Pele boots (open on the calf!) are from R2 (made by Rei2 Aya… search won’t work, but the shop is in her profile) and the black Twin Skinny belt is from Aoharu. The only jewelry I’m wearing are the Bailey’s pearl studs from Exodi.

I’ve picked the simple, classy chignon Christina, from SLink, and I’m wearing Mauve, the next to be released skin from Dutch Touch, based on her awesome Dune skin.

Galatea

Galatea is an upcoming release at Designing Nicky Ree. It’s currently exclusively available to her group members, and tomorrow, August 13, it will be released to the public.

GALATEIA was one of the Nereides, fifty goddess-nymphs of the sea. Her name means either “the goddess of calm seas” from galênê and theia or “milky-white” from galaktos. Galateia frequented the coast of Sicily where she attracted the attention of the Kyklops (Cyclops) Polyphemos. The giant wooed her with tunes from his rustic pipes, and offerings of cheese, milk, and wild fruit. The nymph, however, spurned his advances and consorted instead with a handsome Sicillian youth named Akis. When Polyphemos learned of this, he fell into a jealous rage and crushed the boy beneath a rock. Galateia was grief-stricken and transformed Akis into a stream.
Some say, Galateia was the mother by Polyphemos of Galatos, the eponymous king of Galatia in Asia Minor. (source: Nicky Ree’s info note card, worth reading because it also explains the various combinations that you can make with the many options that Nicky usually offers)

As with all her designs, Nicky draws her textures from scratch, after thorough research and going through lots of illustrations and stories for inspiration. I wanted to include, aside from the gown and the silk option also a close up of the coral and the texture on the cape, to show the incredible details in the texture.

Someone stop me… I’m in a blog binge mood today. I was talking to Dakota Buck just now, and she told me about her and Twiggy’s upcoming release, and then she said… “Did I show you our brooch?” and she send me this beautiful, intricate, primalicious bird, with a subtle shadow baked into it. Now a lot of comments about the content in SL lately is that there is little that makes you jump up and think “OMG… I have to log on.. I MUST have this”, but that exactly was my first reaction when I saw this pretty… but then, Buckie sent it to me already…. so yay!!!

I decided to shoot some pics with it, on the second one you can actually see how tiny it is, but by the time I came back to SL, Dakota had logged off. I went over to Whippet & Buck, but I have not found it in the shop yet, so I’ll assume for now, it’s an unreleased piece. But OMG ( yeah, that’s the 2nd time in one post, I know) keep an eye on Twiggy & Kota’s blog, because you’ll want this!!

PS: if you have plenty of prims at your disposal, you might want to blow it up and put it on your wall…. makes great art as well!

I picked Boom’s summer sarong in tan as the base for today’s look. I decided to leave the sash on the hip in my inventory as it makes the sarong more dressy, and that’s not the look that I wanted to achieve today. I’m wearing it with Tuli’s worn capri’s and Intimizzio’s (Armidi)  Chiara di Luna in black on the shirt and underpants layer. HUZ’ Ugra tattoo felt just right to wear with this. For the accesories I went with good ole Shiny Things stuff. The Zeyla necklace and the Nico bracelet, because they have this chunky, somewhat tribal look that I wanted.

I’m still wearing Lily, the new skin at Exodi from my review earlier today, and the hair is Truth’s Ingrid in Chocolate.

Lily Was Here

Well, she is, not was… but the name of this skin triggered some musical memories: Dave Stewart & Candy Dulfer

It’s fun to follow a creator in their new ventures, especially when they are talented like Ms Ryker Beck from Exodi.  Ever since she has created her first skin a couple of months ago, she’s been a force to reckon with, and with the realisation of Lily, her latest, I think it’s fair to say that she has deserved a place between the more seasoned skinners of SL.

Whereas a lot of people, who also do well in retail, and are blogged frequently, for me remain mediocre and produce skin with a lot of flaws and issues (but the face is cute, so who cares that the body is full of seams and the textures don’t match and the make up is a tad smudged and blotchy, right?) Ryker has been working her ass off to make every skin better, ironing out the things that she felt could be done better in her previous skins, and give every new skin which she creates a character of its own. Pooping rainbows much? Well, I think it’s some well earned praise for someone who’s working hard, and has made huge steps in the development of her product.

Lily is a beautiful skin, combining realism with the smoothness of a hand drawn skin. There probably will be some photosourcing in Lily, but it’s very well blended and never hard or ugly. Lily comes in 4 skintones, like shown on the above picture, and 8 different make ups… or should I say 16, as every make up has a faded version included in the pack as well?  Also, Ryker is known to make pretty dark eyebrows, but for the more fair haeded she includes a light brow version as well. Anyway, they are beautiful,  and they’re also a good deal. Retailing at 800L$ for a single skin (4 really, since you get the regular and the faded make up, in the dark and light eyebrow version) it’s really value for money and the fatpack for 5000 L$ for all 8 make ups in a skintone equals L$ 625 for a single skin.

Bootie shot after the cut, because Lily has a cute bum, and because this skin is about more than just the face! (more…)

fri.day soon, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

Oooooh… such speculations… I’ve heard many… who are the people behind Fri.day??? It is the question of the week and of course I do have my own idea about the creative forces behind this brand, but, does it really matter? If a content creator, or a group of creators, decide(s) to startup a new brand, under an alt, breaking free from their previous image and conventions, or not, whatever pleases them… should it all keep us captive for days? I don’t think so, people. I’ve heard the wildest assumptions, culminating in the inevitable “it’s Ginny, I know for sure” . For me counts what I see though, and what I see is original and well made content. Basics for now, but with obvious feeling for style and a knack for crisp textures.

I’d like to congratulate the fri.day crew with what is already looking like going to be a very succesful launch of their brand, and can only express my hope that they will not neglect their original SL projects.

A quick look today, equestrian inspired, since I love the elegance of that attire. I’m wearing Truth’s 2nd hand jacket (duck egg) with Michami’s Laila skinny pants and sheer shirt in cream. Not visible, but perfect to go with this are Tesla’s bronze Kensington boots. I’m also wearing Zaara’s latest addition to her awesome jewelry collection, the Sarayi wood hoops.

I have never worn KA skins before, but this fair Charlize looks cute on me I think. The blue manicure which matches the jacket perfectly is from PXL Creations and the black Faye hair is from Mirone.

Black and grey are always in style, and so are pencil skirts. Can’t go wrong. I’m wearing Artilleri’s Simplicity black pencil skirt with Whippet & Buck’s Taupe grey Hykova buttoned tank top today. The large belt is from Maiiki’s Strapless & Patent. The impossibly high heeled, lolita-ish Highschool shoes from N-core with tintable socks are perfect with this understated look. I’ve accesorised with one of my very oldest jewelry purchases, the Cameo & Sautoir set from Bong Fromage!, which, even though pre-sculptie, is still looking up to par to newer items. The cute clutch is from Adam ‘n Eve. Someone give Damen Gorilla an award for his sculpt work, or at least a bag of his favourite cookies! The man is so good!

I’m wearing Dutch Touch’s Dune Vamp tanned and Paper Couture’s Princess Heidi hair, which I modded to take the bun off and tinted the roses grey.

I was just pondering doing a nude colour look of the day and bought these creamy Mistral pumps at Adam ‘n Eve, when Twiggy Whippet of Whippet & Buck sent me their latest, a cute little frock called Haver in 8 yummy colour cominations. This one is Champagne and totally fits the defnition of nude colours! So that was element 2. While adorably cute as a frilly mini dress, I wanted to dress it up a little and did so with the bottoms of Michami’s beige Anouk Jump suit. The gorgeous necklace and earrings are the Anganasa set from Uzuri.

I’m wearing a natural blonde skin to go with it, Beauty T2 wild rose from Adam ‘n Eve and Truth’s latest addition to his obese hair inventory, Ashlynn, in dawn.

When Kira Paderborn sent me her first skins for testing and reviewing, I saw a nice one, but with still a lot of issues to work out. So instead of blogging them I drafted a notecard with my feed back, asked Kira if she’d appreciate receiving it and sent her my comments. And then I heard nothing, and thought I maybe had come across too harsh with my critiques. Until earlier today,  when Kira contacted me, telling that she had been working like 18 hours per day since her first one came out on a new skin, and that she thought she had pretty much adressed all the feed back that I had sent her… and OMG, the skin which for now goes by the name of Eva is so much better than the previous one! No more smudgy body parts, everything well blended, a mouth that is well defined and oh so kissable, just a few minor seams to smoothen out in the process of finishing the skin. I just had to take a photo of it to share on the blog. It is post processed, but not heavily photoshopped.

Big kudos for you, Kira… this one is going to be a stunner!!

NB: skin is not released yet, it is a beta and may change before its release.
