Lazy SundayI heard about the BBBC 2009 on plurk…and decided to join. More info about it you’ll find here, on Alicia Chenaux’blog. I have decided to go with the suggested topic for the first post in this challenge: How long have you been a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

Well, it was late November 2006 that I read message from Celebrity Trollop on Second Style that she was looking for new writers for the blog. I was pretty new to SL then, but fascinated with the various aspects of fashion in this virtual environment. So I sent her a message, and on December 1, 2006 I shared my first post with the readers of Second Style Fashionista. Uncertain at first, not able to even create a simple t-shirt, why would I dare to write reviews on SL fashion? English is not my native language… would it be good enough to write in? But in RL I have worked with my father, who was in the fashion industry before retiring last year, and I’ve been visiting the major fashion fairs in Europe ever since I was 16 years old. I’ve never had the ambition to follow in his footsteps, but we share a fashion for design and quality clothing. I decided that was justification enough to take my first steps in SL fashion blogging. And as far as my English is concerned… well… I think I’m doing fine.. and nowadays there are so many non native speaker bloggers anyway.

I was an avid reader of the few blogs that the fashion scene had back then. PXP, Linden Lifestyles and Second Style being the big ones, and at first it felt just plain good to be a part of the community of witty, quirky people who back then put a pretty heavy stamp on what was hot and not in SL. But what blogging has really brought me (aside from a huge inventory) are some pretty awesome and genuine friends. People like Roslin Petion, Sachi Vixen and Shai Delacroix I’ve come to care for as if they were my friends living across the street. Catero and Ryan, my former “colleagues” from Second Man, they are dear to me beyond SL. And then there are people who I got to know when they just started out designing in SL, like Lucas Lameth, my style guru and perfect companion on many a shopping spree, Dakota Buck, that wonderful, sweet, opinionated kick ass textures girl who just started a whole new designing chapter with her best friend Twiggy Whippet and Truth… eternal and extremely talented badass stinker.. one of my dearest buddies, who has never let me down. I love them all. And of course Samara Barzane….. one of the sweetest and most genuine people around… my SL sister, even if I don’t believe in SL family ties. She’s the exeption to the rule.
You know… one of the things I hate about the Academy Awards are the eternal speeches full of credits… but really.. in this case I don’t know where to stop. Blogging has been a way for me to make new friends, something which in RL, due to my extreme shyness isn’t always easy for me, and even if I haven’t mentioned you by name here… you know who you are ❤

I honestly think I have been the first to blog about Nef and Ivalde, Embla and Ask, her three initial brands which later were all integrated under the Ivalde label. I don’t even remember how we met, I think it must have been while I was exploring the grid. I was a rookie blogger, and Nef a rookie designer. It was the beginning of  a nice friendship. Even though lately, we haven’t been in touch much. I hope she’ll be back soon, but I know she’s been suffering pains while designing, and I have suggested she’d take a break a long time ago, so I’m actually glad to see that the move is pretty much making her take the break she really needed. So I figured, in this post to take you through my blogging history with Neferia… don’t be shocked… some of the photo’s are pretty bad… I had a good laugh myself.

Embla_amy_red

Yes, that was back in December 2006, wearing Amy, from the Embla brand. I started blogging at Second Style just a few days before meeting Neferia.

neferia1_002

A few months later… more Ivalde. Logically so, because Neferia turned out to be one of the most diligent and dedicated designers on the grid, and her skills were improving fast, so blogging her again was really a pleasure.

Ivalde

After that, RL took over and there was so much to write about, people knew how to find me and I got a lot of blog requests and so little time. I did a few quick posts about Ivalde, and I also remember Celeb doing a couple. And then, almost a year after my first blog, I remember Nef IM-ing me, asking if I had forgotten about her, or that something was wrong. Nooooooo! not at all.. everything was really very right… but I had been so swamped that I just didn’t manage to be in touch. So I made time to visit my old friend, and got surprised all over at the quality and the improvements in the designs that had been made once again. Result… another Ivalde post *smiles*

And then I went on hiatus from Second Style, was busy with a few other projects and eventually started up my own blog. I’ve been using Ivalde clothes on several looks but early March of this year, my eyes caught the beautiful Odile gown in Ivalde which I wanted to make pretty photos with.

And so today, it’s time for a Look of Ivalde day. I’ve picked the stunningly beautiful blue Halldora gown and wear it with the Birla belt in violetred. The Ivory Spring flower Bun is from JE Republic (retextured and recoloured the flowers) and I’m wearing Tuli’s Hope fair/Tequila. My Veronique jewelry is from Shiny Things.

Nef… enjoy your hiatus… get well, and come back when you’re ready ❤

Wilma

My name is Wilma Delgado and I’m a breast cancer survivor.  This testimony was actually written last year during SL Relay for Life..but I felt like today was a good day to post it again.  This is why I’m walking around the grid today looking like the offspring of Barney and Tinkerbell!  In real life I just had my first haircut…only thing is..I sure don’t remember having this much gray mixed in with the blond! Oh well….I’m healthy and happy and I will deal with the gray in my own way.  Thank God for good hairdressers and the magical potions they possess.

I’m a bit of a private person but I will tell you a bit about my reasoning for being so vocal about RFL.. I’m a cancer survivor! I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2004. I went thru chemo and radiation…thinking it was all over and done with. But, this wasn’t to be. I was diagnosed a second time in July of 2007. I finished my chemo in late March. I’m finishing up with my radiation now and I fully intend on being around to spoil my grandbabies SOMEDAY. My son is 22 and a senior in college. I will be here to see those grandkids. I know that. I feel it in my heart.

I think it is amazing at what we can do when we pull together and work towards the goal. SL RFL has been one of the most touching things I’ve ever experienced. I’ve been involved with RFL for many years and I was just as touched at the Survivors Lap in SL as I was my first survivors lap in so called real world. I sat in front of my computer on a beautiful summer day…I sat there all day…couldn’t tear myself away from the computer screen. Everyone came together for the same cause. This is a beautiful thing!

Cancer is a horrible disease but it doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Don’t look at me like I’m sick or a patient..just look at me. ..I’m a mom..I’m a daughter..a sister …a wife…a friend..I am you. Cancer can happen to anyone. Let’s just find a cure.

Please join me at Relay for Life and be generous. Help us Remember, Celebrate and Fight Back against Cancer!

Until there’s a Cure,

Wilma Delgado

Oh, I forgot this part..grins. I walked my Survivors Lap with my 79 year old mother. She is a breast cancer survivor of 40 years! I walked in our honor and in memory of my older sister that lost her fight to ovarian cancer at the very young age of 46.

chocolate

My long time friend Lucas just IMed me with the question “Chocolate or cookies?”  Whilst normally such a question would cause me an existentialist crisis, today is very much a chocolate day, so that was answered easily enough. Next thing I knew he dropped a box of chocolates from Feather  on me, which I find totaly adorable. Thanks Luc!! <3.  This prim food does not attach to your mouth… but you wear the box of chocolates and on first touch the lit lifts and you can pick your choice of bon bons… when you touch the chocolate, it will appear in your hand and you’ll bring it to your mouth, then it will disappear again… and you can pick another one for your chocolate fix. “but Grazia….. there are only four… how will that ease your craving??, you’ll ask….. Aaaaah… my dear, that is the good part about this fine chocolate food that does not attack your hips nor will cause nasty break outs… once you empty the box, It will just replenish itself  when you put the lit back on. And then you can start all over again… and again… and again… til your pixels are sated and the virtual endorphines will make you feel full of pixel bliss.

The et cetera in this post is dedicated to a little fundraiser that the people at Tableau have put together to help Toast get her long longed for sex change. Ok… rumours are her computer died… but that’s obviously way too normal a reason, considering the nature of the Tableau Troupe. So a sex change it is.. must been the longing to do in RL what in SL you can do in a minute… which I totally have every morning when stuck in traffic and really just want to TP to work… Oh right, I’m rambling… sorry… Anyway… At the central square you’ll find, among others, the pretty Bang Bang hair from Lamb! and the darling Blooming Roses blouses from Très Blah that I’m wearing here. Other contributors are Thimbles, Pudge and Pig. So don’t be cheap and go get some goodies and support one of SL’s most appreciated artists.

A couple of weeks ago Anita Cassini from IBM contacted me and asked me if she could use an old photo that I published more than a year ago on Second Style blog wearing Nicky Ree´s Snow Princess gown. Fleur

Last Sunday Roslin and CJ re-opened their sim with a smashing Casino Royal themed party with lots of goodies on the TOS compliant roulette table. Even though my crappy and very lag sensitive computer made moving hard for me, I had a great time. No wonder, because the party took place in the newly build shop. It’s only a few weeks ago that CJ outdid himself on the railway station, which I loved and hate myself for not taking a good series of photos of it while I could, but this new build is truly grand. CJ got inspired by the Raffles hotel in Singapore, which in hospitality business is still an icon. I really think CJ is one of the most amazing builders in SL. This new build does also justice to the new location, as the sim was moved next door to Tropical Orchid, Nicky Ree’s sim. These talented content creators are neighbours now and we can probably expect some nice collaborations in the future.

On the occasion of the re-opening of Fleur (formerly Tête à Pied) Roslin and CJ released a new skin in their Boutique series: Shouju. A high quality, no seams, no blotchy details anime inspired skin that you’ll also love if you are not into anime/manga or that kind of stuff. Comes in 2 light skintones, the porcelain Lily and the slightly pinker Lotus and in 6 delicious make ups. The body is everything you may expect from Fleur skins. OK. just wanted to share this with you before I run off to work and drag myself into my every morning traffic jam. XOXO

PS sorry for the poor lighting on the body.. I just could not get it right last night

RL Fashion Inspiration

Thx Tao for adding More Than Meets The Eye to Fashion World. xoxo

My main fashion inspiration comes from a friend I have known for about 12 years. When we met he was a booker at a modeling agency and when we started talking over drinks he told me about his passion for fashion and that he dreamed of becoming a couturier. A few years after we met I was involved in the organisation of his first big couture show, and nowadays he has a blooming fashion house in Antwerp. Although we don’t have frequent contact anymore, I never stopped following his collections and I am proud of what he has achieved.

What fascinates me in Stephan Badal’s fashion is the ultra femininity in design, combined with often very rich asian fabrics, not to mention impeccable detailing and craftsmanship. The designs he makes serve just one purpose…. to make women look as beautiful as possible. In the last year I have seen many of the things he uses in his designs in inworld collections too and it always makes me smile to see how RL fashion finds its way into our second lives.

Fun

Just before I left for my holiday, my friend NIcky Ree asked if I was willing to model with her for her Kelly gowns. Ofcourse I accepted, and was all the more pleasantly surprised when I learned that marvelous black & white photographer Carl Crabe would be shooting.

I had a great time, and I am looking forward to work with both Nicky and Carl again. They both are great fun to be with.

My friend Aradia Dielli took this picture after she installed her new graphic card….. I have a notebook wit an integrated card that might not even survive the next update, although it’s not even 1 year old……..In order to update anything, I would have to buy a new motherboard, which would cost me as much as a new computer. /me notes that a next computer should be a heavy user desk top
