Blogger Challenge: Barerose 2010, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz. Photo edited in PS

I was over at Barerose earlier and seriously… June Dion from BareRose is one of the all time most fabulous, consistent and creative content creators of SecondLife, who just is underexposed on the blogs. Maybe because she’s such a constant factor, that people tend to focus more on the novelties, but anyway, I got fascinated all over again with the incredible variety of fashion, fantasy, historical and just plain outrageous outfits, all under 200L$ for multiple colors.

Last year our resident vampire fashionisto, Winter Jefferson, started a BareRose appreciation week, which was a huge success. I wouldn’t go that far, but this week, I’d love to see a lot of you going crazy creative with BareRose outfits!

I have picked the Chimera Huntress outfit for this picture, combined with PXL Creations’s Efe skin and L.Fauna’s red Allure eyes.

I’m looking forward to see your entries. Please leave me a link in the comments, so that I can see yours too!!!

❤ Grazia

Chalice Carling has issued such a lovely challenge, which totally appeals to my addiction of dressing up. You can read all about it here, but the long story short is… create 2 bridal looks, with stuff from your inventory, without actually using a bridal gown, So, without further ado… let’s proceed with the ceremonie For the church ceremony I have picked Lelutka’s white Leona dress and the short coat from Très Beau’s Winter Whites outfit. The necklace is Athena Crystals from Lucas Lameth and the simple white slinky stilettos are from Maitreya.

With my Maan Carmen skin from Dutch Touch, I’m wearing Tukinowaguma’s Bouquet SH In platinum, and I retextured the flower wrap for a more.. uhm… bridal touch.

I don’t think I’d ever get married in church, and I really can’t see myself in a battleship wedding dress… but this is actually something I might feel (somewhat) comfortable in .

Now a beach wedding… that’d be nice! Way more laid back and casual, and though I first wanted to put on some skimpy bikini, I turned out making an outfit which I think is actually very romantic!

Nicky Ree’s Summer breeze in Ivory, combined with the Silva veil, also from Nicky Ree, but with the white freedom flops from Surf Couture, because seriously… who is going to wear high heels on a beach wedding? I’m also wearing Zaara’s Parmini necklace and the Patra silver bracelet.

For this look I still went with Maan, but this time with the Fifties make up, and the super lovely hair is I’m a Romantic, from Lamb, in kitkat.

Slurls can be found here… live happily ever after, k?

Grazia past & present, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

Sophia Harlow challenged the bloggers to get their old selves out of the dark depths of our out of control inventories and compare with our current appearance.

The funny thing is… I haven’t even changed that much in 3,5 years in SL…. yeah, I’ve shrunk quite a bit, my legs as well… and the boobies… omg… they used to be a full 72.. and now I keep them at a modest 23, but all in all, I don’t think I was such a fugly noob (except for the first few days, and no… there is no evidence remaining of those days)

3 little things, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

Following Samara’s lead in this challenge, I’ve spent my night thinking what 3 things I’d really miss if they would not be in my inventory any longer.

It’s difficult. In 3 years in Second Life, one collects a lot of stuff with memories attached, so other than the few dollars that they may have cost, the sentimental value is way more important. Of course one collects an ever bigger amount of crap and still grows attached to that, so that makes it even harder.

The first snapshot I ever saved to my inventory, the limited Dazzle and Last Call gowns, quirky notes from old friends, now long gone from SL… to be honest, I’d miss that all. But… Sam is a tough cookie to deal with, and three is three for ms Barzane… so, what I would really miss are my Magika lashes (no alpha, but all prims, so no interference with my tons of hair!!), the grey gold large eyes from PXL Creations (worthy replacement of my beloved Miriel eyes which are no longer available) and the alaMood one of a kind jewelry set which my bestie Jori made on request of my SL one and only Truth for my birthday last week.

Special mention for my mystitool…. since Mystical Cookie seems to have disappeared off the surface of the earth in both worlds, there have not been any updates, but still it’s the best gadget a girl can have!

Hybrid Ansar posted this challenge on her blog the other day and meanwhile a couple of plurkers/bloggers have stepped up to it and have created a big girl/ big boy and made then cute as can be….. This is my big girl and I think she’s just creamy!

Credits: Hair Sileny by Truth, skin Lily by Exodi, Mraz scarf (tinted) by Decoy, top Beatha @ Artilleri, and the Old School tattoo is also from Artilleri. Reel movement caters to the pose and AO needs of the curvier shapes, and even if this one is more than just curvy, I found her Luth Brodie’s poses work out pretty fine!

BTW, if you don’t have a blog, yet would like to participate, send me your high resolution full perm photo (minimum 512×512) in world and I’ll post it here for you.

NO H8, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

On day two of the BBBC 2009 i’d like to address the NO H8 campaign. I am Dutch and live near Amsterdam. To some of you that may seem like I live in the ultimate free state, citizen of the suburbs of Sodom & Gomorra. But it’s  not that bad, really… we’re more conservative than you might think.

Yes we have registered partnerships… open to both opposite and same sex couples (it’s a purely legal alternative to marriage, which is being considered having a religious component, and will give partners the same legal benefits as married couples) and I think it is a good thing. Why should same sex couples who want to commit to eachother and take care of eachother, just like hetero sexual couples, have less legal possibilities to do so? With mr. Horwitz, I can make him my heir and he’ll be elligible for a part of my pension plan should something happen to me and he has to go on alone.. but if mr Horwitz were a ms Horwitz… I should not be able to appoint her as my heir and partner on my pension plan? Would my love and my responsibility for my significant other be worth less?

And yet… even here in my liberal mini country there are narrow minded people who have a “not in my back yard” attitude towards same sex registered partners. Last year, in my town council, we had quite a fierce discussion between the confessionals and conservatives on one side and the liberals and social democrats to the other. NO… the confessionals were not against the same sex partnerships… everyone should have the right to form a formal bond… after all, that’s the law… but… the offical who would have to close such bond, who would conduct the ceremonial aspect of the registration .. he/she should have the liberty to refuse to do so if their personal beliefs were opposed to same sex couples.

It made me angry and sad. Should I want to be a teacher at elementary school… I can’t say I’ll teach Dutch and History, but I won’t teach children how to write…. That is an essential part of the job as a teacher. If you want to be a wedding official, you can’t choose that some couples you will “marry” and others you won’t. Aside fromt he fact that I think you shouldn’t even want to become a wedding official if you have issues with same sex couples, the whole discussion is ridiculous… and yet so very real.

So the NO H8 campaign, it may be an initiative to protest against proposition 8… but as far as I am concerned, it’s not limited to that. There are so many couples same sex and opposite sex who deeply love eachother, and care for eachoter. And if you truly believe that all men are created equal… then we all should have the same rights and access to social institutions.

Lazy SundayI heard about the BBBC 2009 on plurk…and decided to join. More info about it you’ll find here, on Alicia Chenaux’blog. I have decided to go with the suggested topic for the first post in this challenge: How long have you been a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

Well, it was late November 2006 that I read message from Celebrity Trollop on Second Style that she was looking for new writers for the blog. I was pretty new to SL then, but fascinated with the various aspects of fashion in this virtual environment. So I sent her a message, and on December 1, 2006 I shared my first post with the readers of Second Style Fashionista. Uncertain at first, not able to even create a simple t-shirt, why would I dare to write reviews on SL fashion? English is not my native language… would it be good enough to write in? But in RL I have worked with my father, who was in the fashion industry before retiring last year, and I’ve been visiting the major fashion fairs in Europe ever since I was 16 years old. I’ve never had the ambition to follow in his footsteps, but we share a fashion for design and quality clothing. I decided that was justification enough to take my first steps in SL fashion blogging. And as far as my English is concerned… well… I think I’m doing fine.. and nowadays there are so many non native speaker bloggers anyway.

I was an avid reader of the few blogs that the fashion scene had back then. PXP, Linden Lifestyles and Second Style being the big ones, and at first it felt just plain good to be a part of the community of witty, quirky people who back then put a pretty heavy stamp on what was hot and not in SL. But what blogging has really brought me (aside from a huge inventory) are some pretty awesome and genuine friends. People like Roslin Petion, Sachi Vixen and Shai Delacroix I’ve come to care for as if they were my friends living across the street. Catero and Ryan, my former “colleagues” from Second Man, they are dear to me beyond SL. And then there are people who I got to know when they just started out designing in SL, like Lucas Lameth, my style guru and perfect companion on many a shopping spree, Dakota Buck, that wonderful, sweet, opinionated kick ass textures girl who just started a whole new designing chapter with her best friend Twiggy Whippet and Truth… eternal and extremely talented badass stinker.. one of my dearest buddies, who has never let me down. I love them all. And of course Samara Barzane….. one of the sweetest and most genuine people around… my SL sister, even if I don’t believe in SL family ties. She’s the exeption to the rule.
You know… one of the things I hate about the Academy Awards are the eternal speeches full of credits… but really.. in this case I don’t know where to stop. Blogging has been a way for me to make new friends, something which in RL, due to my extreme shyness isn’t always easy for me, and even if I haven’t mentioned you by name here… you know who you are ❤

I honestly think I have been the first to blog about Nef and Ivalde, Embla and Ask, her three initial brands which later were all integrated under the Ivalde label. I don’t even remember how we met, I think it must have been while I was exploring the grid. I was a rookie blogger, and Nef a rookie designer. It was the beginning of  a nice friendship. Even though lately, we haven’t been in touch much. I hope she’ll be back soon, but I know she’s been suffering pains while designing, and I have suggested she’d take a break a long time ago, so I’m actually glad to see that the move is pretty much making her take the break she really needed. So I figured, in this post to take you through my blogging history with Neferia… don’t be shocked… some of the photo’s are pretty bad… I had a good laugh myself.

Embla_amy_red

Yes, that was back in December 2006, wearing Amy, from the Embla brand. I started blogging at Second Style just a few days before meeting Neferia.

neferia1_002

A few months later… more Ivalde. Logically so, because Neferia turned out to be one of the most diligent and dedicated designers on the grid, and her skills were improving fast, so blogging her again was really a pleasure.

Ivalde

After that, RL took over and there was so much to write about, people knew how to find me and I got a lot of blog requests and so little time. I did a few quick posts about Ivalde, and I also remember Celeb doing a couple. And then, almost a year after my first blog, I remember Nef IM-ing me, asking if I had forgotten about her, or that something was wrong. Nooooooo! not at all.. everything was really very right… but I had been so swamped that I just didn’t manage to be in touch. So I made time to visit my old friend, and got surprised all over at the quality and the improvements in the designs that had been made once again. Result… another Ivalde post *smiles*

3319022800_547ac6568b_o

And then I went on hiatus from Second Style, was busy with a few other projects and eventually started up my own blog. I’ve been using Ivalde clothes on several looks but early March of this year, my eyes caught the beautiful Odile gown in Ivalde which I wanted to make pretty photos with.

And so today, it’s time for a Look of Ivalde day. I’ve picked the stunningly beautiful blue Halldora gown and wear it with the Birla belt in violetred. The Ivory Spring flower Bun is from JE Republic (retextured and recoloured the flowers) and I’m wearing Tuli’s Hope fair/Tequila. My Veronique jewelry is from Shiny Things.

Nef… enjoy your hiatus… get well, and come back when you’re ready ❤

Octopussies

Octopussies, originally uploaded by Grazia Horwitz.

Gotta love your sister… whether she be SL or RL… now that I think of it, my RL sister has a habit of buying me fun gifts too… and I don’t mean the newest showergel at Lush, although I admit, my RL sister does spoil me rotten with those goodies… anyway I’m rambling. It’s Saturday, I’m sleep deprived, and the only person I consider to be my sibling in SL, the lovely Samara Barzane, dropped me these octopus slippers with the words: “Everyone needs a pair of these”.

And you do. These are so silly that I snorted my tea over the the table, I could only barely avoid my computer. If that wasn’t enough, Sam challenged me to blog them… so this one is for you, Sam! ❤

(anyway, in case you’re still interested…the kitchen is from Blonde. The octopus slippers are from E! Eclectic Accesoires, the apron that I retrieved from the depths of my inventory is from 3star design, and the lime sheer ribbed cami is from Popfuzz. I’m wearing Canimal’s Suicide Girls body graffiti and Curio’s April Rainbow 2 in petal. My hair is Trixie, in toffee, from Artilleri, and the smoke is from FNKY!)

Valena’s Style it challenge was too good not to take up… so today’s look is around Baiastice’s Diamond Eyepatch. I got these good ole Billy Idol vibes when I started to play with it, so I rocked it up with Barerose’s Hell Fire coat and Tart’s ultra low rise Crack jeans. The SW necklace and bangles are from Icon. Killing yourself with style is easy with FNKY’s cigarette.

I’m wearing Mai Skins Mia midday skin vol.7, and MAD designs Luka in Swedish blonde III. The stitches tattoo is from Den Dou, and I tinted it for a more bruised look.

http://slurls.wordpress.com/ has all the SLurls you need!
